Having a heavy influence on my early teenage years - developing a Punk piece has been on my mind for some time. My preferred subject(s) waned over the last year or two as I tried to decide who would best exemplify the genre. During a recent trip to New York I had made a consorted effort to visit some of the legendary punk/rock venues that had sprung up during the 1970’s. It was a visit to the former home of legendary punk venue CBGB’s that I found my direction and inspiration for this piece. Walking through this gritty, beer soaked, graffiti ridden piece of music history I could almost hear the ghost of Joey Ramone bouncing off the walls – there was no doubt in my mind who the Punk subject would be. Often cited as the first punk rock group, this band of misfits became a major influence on the punk rock movement on both sides of the Atlantic – and to this day remain the template that punk bands try to follow or emulate.
