Much like Ozzy, Alice Cooper was introduced to me at a very young age and quickly became almost a mythological creature throughout my neighborhood. Long before the internet and social media, word of mouth and school yard stories were the only source of information available to us. Through these stories, the legend of this terrifying man known as Alice Cooper was born. The urban legend-like tales of an Alice Cooper show assaulted my young mind with images of bloody guillotines, electric chairs and severed heads. His use of horror inspired imagery and over the top theatrics both terrified and intrigued me and often crept into my thoughts as I lay awake at night. In the early nineties, a popular band coined the lyric “there’s this fucking band you gotta see, they used to scare the living shit out of me” and every time I heard that lyric my mind drifted back to those impressionable years where Alice Cooper crept into my head late at night and whispered……”welcome to my nightmare”.
