Where the hell were you in ’92?.... I can state with a degree of accuracy, not only where I was, but what I was doing. I was most likely in my basement earning beer money by drawing a portrait and having my mind blown and life altered by an album titled “Pretty Hate Machine”. At the crest of the Grunge movement, I was introduced to a developing underground counter culture of gritty, synth based, industrial rock. Nine Inch Nails came through my speakers like a freight train - a powder keg of intense emotion laced with a sense of savagery, anarchy and reckless abandon – I was hooked. Only those lucky enough to experience a NIN show live can describe the energy they produce as they turn even the largest of venues into a dark, sweaty underground club. With this piece I tried to capture both the intensity and atmosphere that engulfs the band during their live performances where they transform the writhing vibrating, sweating crowd into a single living entity.
