MAIN FEATURES
POWER RESERVE
Circa 48 hours.
BASEPLATE AND BRIDGES IN GRADE 5 TITANIUM
The manufacturing of these components in grade 5 titanium gives the whole assembly a high degree of rigidity and achieves excellent surface flatness which is essential for ensuring that the gear train functions perfectly. The skeletonized baseplate and the bridges have been subjected to intensive and complete validation tests to optimize their resistance capacities. It is tilted 30° providing optimal conditions for users to check the time on their wrist. Both compact and lightweight, the RM053 movement is ultra-resistant to the centrifugal and centripetal forces generated during a match.
FREE SPRUNG BALANCE WHEEL WITH VARIABLE INERTIA
The free-sprung balance provides better reliability in the event of shocks, movement assembly and disassembly. It also guarantees better chronometric results over an extended period of time. There is no need for an index plate, allowing more precise and frequent adjustment using 4 setting screws.
FAST ROTATING BARREL (6 hours per revolution instead of 7.5 hours)
This type of barrel provides the following advantages:
• The phenomenon of periodic internal mainspring adhesion is significantly diminished, thereby
increasing performance,
• Provision of an excellent mainspring delta curve with an ideal power reserve/performance/regularity ratio.
BARREL PAWL WITH PROGRESSIVE RECOIL
This device permits a profitable winding gain (circa 20 %), especially during the winding start. It is also helpful in the distribution of the mainspring’s internal tension.
WINDING BARREL TEETH AND THIRD-WHEEL PINION WITH CENTRAL INVOLUTE PROFILE
The central involute profile of the winding barrel teeth and pinion provides an optimal pressure angle of 20°. This promotes effective rotary motion and allows for compensation of possible variations in the engagement of the going train, thus insuring excellent torque transmission with a distinct improvement in performance.
SPLINE SCREWS IN GRADE 5 TITANIUM FOR THE BRIDGES
This permits better control of the torque applied to the screws during assembly. These screws are therefore unaffected by physical manipulation during assembly or disassembly and age well.

CASE
The RM 053 case boasts an innovative design with curves that have never been seen before in a Richard Mille timepiece. The watchcase was designed to protect the tourbillon movement from shocks resulting from the abrupt clashes of horses, riders and mallets during polo matches in which Pablo Mac Donough took part. Therefore, instead of sapphire glass, the front of the watch with its two raised viewing windows is sculpted from titanium carbide, providing optimal armored protection. Titanium carbide (TiC) is a titanium and carbon alloy that is almost as hard as diamond. This hardness enables it to Withstand extremes and therefore ensures outstanding durability. Owing to its complex shape, this piece required many hours of machining. This armored plate is integrated within a microblasted front bezel, caseband and back bezel of grade 5 titanium. The two viewing windows provide minutes and hours on the right and seconds on the left. This special design enables users to check the time quickly and effectively, whilst ensuring optimal protection.
SPLINE SCREWS IN GRADE 5 TITANIUM FOR THE CASE
This permits better control of the torque applied to the screws during assembly. These screws are therefore unaffected by physical manipulation during assembly or disassembly and age well.
