Golden River: Hors d' commerce

Michael Yamashita

"Daisetsuzan means “Big Snow Mountain” and boasts more feet of snow than anywhere else in Japan thanks to Siberian winds that blow across the landscape. I was here at sunset to photograph the days last warm rays of sun, turning the frigid Chubetsu River studded with patches of snow into a golden stream of light. My Chinese friends tell me this is good luck or “feng shui,” as the golden water symbolizes prosperity coming your way."

Location: Daisetsuzan National Park, Hokkaido, Japan

Capture Date: 2007

Medium: Chromogenic Print

Edition: 30
